HUMAN LIFE WORTH: Business Ethics

Human life is immensely important and thus business must seriously consider the impact of their product or services on human lives. However there are instances where people take unnecessary risks and thus lose their lives. In that case, we cannot hold the companies liable because it was not due to their faulty products or services that a person lost his life. Government must step in with regulations etc. To make it easier to see the difference between recklessness and responsibility.

Businesses generally have a very high responsibility towards their customers. They are required to ensure maximum protection of their consumers by making sure that everything is completely safe and properly tested before it enters the market. We cannot place a price tag on human life because each life is worth protecting. However if a person wants to do something reckless, then holding a company responsible would be completely unfair to the business concern and it would also give everyone a reason to abdicate their responsibility and instead blame others for their actions.

A good example of this would be over-speeding. A person who chooses not to follow the speed limits and instead goes over limit not only endangers his own life but also jeopardizes the lives on others on the road. But if instead of blaming that person, we blame the makers of his car for this problem then not only are we being unfair to the maker, we are also giving others an excuse to go over limit since they know that they won't be held responsible.

To teach a society the worth of human life, it is extremely important that everyone has a deep sense of responsibility. This sense should be further reinforced with the help of measures like placing the blame where it is due instead of pointing fingers. We often allow people to get away with just about anything which are the main cause for the rise in crime and loss of lives due to variety of reckless activities.

If we instill a deep sense of responsibility in our people, we would see a huge dip in the number of lives lost. And this can be done only when we place the blame where it is due instead of using some entities as the scapegoat simply because they are influential.
